The Kilkennys

Talent, passion and ambition can go a long way. Of which an account in the story of life of The Kilkennys. Four friends from the Irish city of Kilkenny shared their passion for music, founded a band and rocked many a pub. Twelve years later, the foursome has taken its repertoire from the pub sphere to world level and they have a large fan base in Europe and America. The formula behind the success is the unique blend between the band members, who belong together vocally and instrumentally as much as the whiskey and the glass.

The Kilkenny's have given traditional Irish music a new twist, so that classic folk songs and ballads appeal to both the younger generation and veteran music lovers. Their name is now synonymous with modern Irish music.

Their songs are cheerful and upbeat, such as in their renditions of the classics 'The Spanish Lady', 'Tell Me Ma' and 'Whisky In The Jar'. With their energetic appearance, their fast instrumental rhythms and genuine Irish humor, they easily captivate every venue and festival.

After conquering all of Ireland, Irish festivals in Europe and the US became their springboard onto the international stage. Such as in front of a 15,000-person audience during the Zwarte Cross in the Netherlands. But wherever their journeys take them, they continue to cherish their roots and their beloved home of Kilkenny always travels with them in their music. The Kilkennys were already at Zomerfolk in 2016 and 2018. And now they are playing on the Sunday of our 10th anniversary edition!

The Kilkennys play the Main Stage on Sunday 2 June.
